Current and future research
- Refine the site-specific nutrient management (SSNM) approach and develop strategies for compatible management of nutrients and principal pests (insect and disease) in intensive, irrigated rice systems.
- Design and communicate guidelines for integrated nutrient, pest, and crop management that optimize resource use and productivity in intensive rice systems.Assess the adoption potential of knowledge-based strategies for nutrient and pest management by farmers in intensive irrigated rice systems in South and Southeast Asia.
- Develop and use methods for quantifying the interactive effects of nutrient inputs and principal pests (insect and disease) on yield and productivity in intensive rice systems.
- Determine variations and medium-term trends of biophysical and socioeconomic indicators of productivity and sustainability in representative irrigated rice domains in South and Southeast Asia.
- Strengthen interdisciplinary research on nutrient, soil, pest, and crop management within NARS and enhance professional development and interactions among Asian rice scientists.
