Current and future research

Refine the site-specific nutrient management (SSNM) approach and develop strategies for compatible management of nutrients and principal pests (insect and disease) in intensive, irrigated rice systems.
Design and communicate guidelines for integrated nutrient, pest, and crop management that optimize resource use and productivity in intensive rice systems.Assess the adoption potential of knowledge-based strategies for nutrient and pest management by farmers in intensive irrigated rice systems in South and Southeast Asia.
Develop and use methods for quantifying the interactive effects of nutrient inputs and principal pests (insect and disease) on yield and productivity in intensive rice systems.
Determine variations and medium-term trends of biophysical and socioeconomic indicators of productivity and sustainability in representative irrigated rice domains in South and Southeast Asia.
Strengthen interdisciplinary research on nutrient, soil, pest, and crop management within NARS and enhance professional development and interactions among Asian rice scientists.
