Implementing SSNM in Indonesia

The SSNM approach of developing and implementing improved fertilizer management for rice in Indonesia is explained in a paper written by collaborating scientists from Indonesian agricultural research institutions, the Southeast Asia Program (SEAP) of PPI/PPIC and IPI, and IRRI. The SSNM approach as presented in the paper includes use of the leaf color chart (LCC) for managing fertilizer N, and it enables use of both the nutrient omission plot technique and soil testing—through use of a portable soil test kit—to determine the needs of rice for fertilizer P and K. The paper entitled “Improving nutrient management for irrigated rice with particular consideration to Indonesia” was prepared for the proceedings of the International Rice Conference held in Bali in September 2005. A copy of the paper is available at the following link.
