Home Development of a new approach Widespread benefits Producing healthy rice

 Diverse paddies

A rice crop obtains most of its essential nutrients from soil and crop residues. Crop, soil, and residue management practices used by farmers consequently influence the amount of nutrients supplied to crops and the need for supplemental nutrients as fertilizer.

Rice fields, or paddies, vary greatly in their management by farmers and consequently in their need for fertilizer. Scientists developed the SSNM approach to enable farmers to adjust their fertilizer use to the specific needs of rice in their paddies to avoid wasting fertilizer and ensure high profit.
