The International Rice Research Notes (IRRN) has expedited communication among scientists concerned with development of improved technology for rice and rice-based cropping systems for more than 3 decades.

It is a mechanism to help scientists keep each other informed of current rice research findings. The concise scientific notes are meant to encourage rice scientists to communicate with one another to obtain details on the research reported.

Alert: IRRN goes open access in 2008

IRRN is going open access in 2008 using the Open Journal System (OJS). There will be no more printed copies of the publication.

OJS is a journal management and publishing system that was developed by the Public Knowledge Project (PKP) to expand and improve access to research and the quality of refereed research. This open access initiative seeks to improve the scholarly and public quality of journal publishing.

OJS is open-source software freely available to journals worldwide, which can speed up information delivery to end-users, allow real-time exchange of information between and among scientists, and improve the indexing and search capacities of the journal.

With IRRN now going open access, all contributing authors from the national agricultural research and extension systems (NARES) are encouraged to register using this link— www.irrnjournal.org—to create individual accounts and provide information about themselves. Manuscripts can now be submitted online upon registration, with the review process performed in real time and the status of the manuscript shown on the author’s profile page.

Watch out for the launch of IRRN OJS in April 2008!
