Call for papers

Symposia and poster presentations will form the backbone of the conference, focusing on integrated topics in the four thematic areas. Authors are invited to submit papers on the various topics of the four thematic areas:

  • Oryza: its diversity, evolution, and utility (Oryza, biodiversity, and phylogeny)
  • Structure and function of the rice genome (DNA sequencing and functional genomics)
  • Opportunities for and challenges of transgenic rice (transgenics)
  • Improving rice yield potential (yield potential, physiology, photosynthesis)
  • Broadening the gene pool and exploiting heterosis in cultivated rice (rice ecosystems)
  • Trends in crop establishment and management in Asia (direct seeding, herbicide-resistant weeds/rice, labor saving, and weedy rice)
  • Improving efficiency through innovations in mechanization (machinery/precision farming and labor-saving technologies)
  • Improving rice quality (taste and health; grain quality)
  • Developing new uses for rice (processing; food and nonfood usage)
  • Postharvest technology for efficient processing and distribution of rice (safety, traceability, and milling quality)
  • Enhancing the multifunctionality of rice systems (water management, multifunctional roles)
  • Conservation of soil, water, and environment in rice culture (sustainability, soil management, soil and water conservation)
  • Farmers’ participatory approaches to facilitate adoption of improved technology (technology transfer, participatory approach, rural development)
  • Potential for diversification in rice-based systems to enhance rural livelihoods (farming systems, crop diversification, rural nonfarm economy, agricultural growth linkages)
  • Challenges in expanding rice production in unfavorable environments (abiotic stress and unfavorable environment)
  • Pest management with minimal environmental stress (biotic stress, IPM, biocontrols, environmental compatibility, and improving IPM adoption)
  • Rice supply and demand (supply of and demand for rice, food security)
  • Impact of globalization on rice farmers (rice farmers, the family farm, food security)
  • Climate change and rice production (climate change and cultivation)
  • Improving rice productivity through IT (information and communication technologies)
