Dr. Nguyen Van Hung is the institute’s leading expert in scientific R&D for rice mechanization and postharvest management, with more than 20 years of experience working in Southeast Asia. He leads the Mechanization and Postharvest Unit of IRRI, and focuses his research on sustainable rice straw management, mechanized direct seeding, and integrated precision farming. He has led developing innovations supporting high -productivity and low-emission rice, such as mechanized direct seeding combined with fertilizer deep placement, rice straw-based circular economy, EasyFarm App for match-making rice-based value chains, etc. He is a leading or key author in over 70 peer-reviewed journal publications.
