Chief of Party – Business and Private Sector Development

About

Sirajul leads efforts towards private sector business and policy development in Bangladesh and with private sector partners in other countries. As Chief of Party, he provides technical support to breeders and scientists in developing breeding strategies, superior varieties, new protocols, and field research management techniques, while refining existing methods of breeding.

Credentials

Sirajul has over 27 years of professional experience in development work including research and extension of agricultural technologies, seed sector and livelihood development, climate change, teaching, capacity building, and project management.

Prior to joining IRRI, Sirajul was the Senior Team Leader for Host Community Program of CARE’s intervention in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh, providing strategic leadership in areas of program management, people management, coordination and representation, team and resource management, new program development, learning, and knowledge management.

Sirajul also worked at BRAC for 11 years as Head of Agriculture and Food Security Program to provide strategic leadership on agriculture, food and nutrition security, seed sector, and livelihood program in Bangladesh.

He has worked in various other capacities: as consultant at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations on Rice Enhancement Project in the Republic of the Fiji Islands, as a Senior Scientific Officer at the Bangladesh Rice Research Institute (BRRI), and as a former Lecturer at the Department of Agronomy in Patuakhali Science and Technology University, Patuakhali, Bangladesh.
