
CGIAR Asia tripartite partnership appoints new Director of Ethics and Business Conduct
We are pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Steve Korir as the Director of Ethics and Business Conduct for the CGIAR Asia Tripartite Partnership, comprising the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), the International Water Management Institute (IWMI), and WorldFish.
This appointment was established under the leadership of Directors General Dr. Yvonne Pinto (IRRI), Dr. Mark Smith (IWMI), and Dr. Essam Yassin Mohammed (WorldFish) and reflects their shared commitment to strengthening integrity, transparency, and ethical governance across the three centers.
Mr. Korir brings over 12 years of experience in oversight functions, including ethics, investigations, audit, and risk management. He most recently served as the Global Head of Investigations within CGIAR’s Ethics and Business Conduct Office.
He has a distinguished track record in building and leading ethics and compliance programs in complex international settings, and has demonstrated deep expertise in managing investigations, developing policies, and advising senior leadership on ethical matters.
In his new role, Mr. Korir will lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive ethics framework across IRRI, IWMI, and WorldFish. He will play a key role in strengthening ethical decision-making, safeguarding, and promoting a culture of accountability across all three centers in support of their collective mission.
Based in Penang, Malaysia, Mr. Korir will continue to work closely with teams across the region. He officially assumed his position on August 1, 2025.
