Kurniawan Rudi Trijatmiko

Scientist II- Genome Engineering Regulatory Science and Affairs - Rice Genetic Design & Validation Unit

About

Rudi’s work at the Genetic Transformation Laboratory encompasses the development and characterization of high iron & zinc rice (HIZR) events. His field of specialization is molecular genetics.

He joined IRRI fulltime in 2018. Previously, he worked as a scientist in Indonesia, conducting research on genetic engineering to improve nitrogen use efficiency, drought tolerance and disease resistance in rice, and on  linkage mapping to locate the chromosomal regions associated with drought tolerance, blast resistance, yield components and grain quality of rice. He did his postdoctoral training at IRRI in 2009-2011, working on the engineering of rice for high iron and zinc, functional validation of candidate genes, and molecular characterization of golden rice events.

Rudi holds a BS in Plant Breeding from Gadjah Mada University (1994), and MS in Biotechnology from Bogor Agricultural University (2000), in Indonesia; and a PhD in Plant Sciences from Wageningen University, Netherlands (2005).
