Lindiwe Majele Sibanda

Lindiwe Majele Sibanda is an animal scientist and a practicing farmer with extensive experience and a prolific profile, serving as a policy advisor to numerous African governments and global institutions.

She is a Professor and the Director and Chair of the African Research Universities Alliance (ARUA) Centre of Excellence in Food Systems at the University of Pretoria, South Africa. Prof. Sibanda is also the Co-Chair of the Global Alliance for Climate-Smart Agriculture (GACSA) hosted by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, Rome, Italy. She is a serving Advisory Board Member of Infinite Foods, Board Member of WorldVeg, and an Associate Fellow at Chatham House. She is a serving member of Champions UN SDG 12.3, accelerating progress toward reducing food loss and waste towards achieving SDG Target 12.3 by 2030.

Lindiwe is very familiar with the CGIAR system, having previously served as a Board Chair for the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI), a Board Member of the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT), and a programme advisor to the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), International Water Management Institute (IWMI), and the Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS). She also served on the EAT-Lancet Commission on healthy diets from sustainable food systems and as a member of the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR) Policy Advisory Council.
Lindiwe has also served in senior leadership positions in various organizations, including Vice-President, Country Support, Policy and Partnerships for the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA), and CEO and Head of Mission of the Pan-African Food, Agriculture and Natural Resources Policy Analysis Network (FANRPAN). She has recently been nominated to serve on the Nestle S.A. Board.
Lindiwe holds a PhD and MSc in Animal Sciences from the University of Reading, and a BSc in Animal Sciences from the University of Alexandria, Egypt.
