ASEAN-CGIAR Innovate for Food Regional Program

ASEAN-CGIAR Innovate for Food Regional Program

Background

The ASEAN region is diverse and rich in biodiversity, playing a crucial role in agri-food and fish systems. However, it faces significant challenges, including climate change, urbanization, and biodiversity loss. In response, ASEAN Member States are working towards a shared vision for a competitive, inclusive, resilient, and sustainable food system, aiming to enhance food and nutrition security.

Guided by the ASEAN Vision and Strategic Plan for Cooperation in Food, Agriculture, and Forestry (2016-2025), as well as the ASEAN Regional Guidelines for Sustainable Agriculture (2022) and the ASEAN Guidelines on Promoting Responsible Investment, the ASEAN-CGIAR Innovate for Food Regional Program seeks to implement integrated innovations. This program aims to build resilience in agri-food systems, improve livelihoods, and ensure affordable, nutritious food while fostering a healthier environment over the next ten years.

Objectives

Food systems are at the nexus of food security, nutritional health, viable ecosystems, resilience in the face of climate change, and prosperity. The IFRP will address eight primary challenges and support delivering the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development through the eight intervention packages in this program namely:

  • IP 1: Regenerative Agriculture/Aquaculture Practices and Judicious Agrochemical Use
  • IP 2: Climate Neutrality and Circular Agriculture
  • IP 3: Enhancing ASEAN Agrobiodiversity Use and Landscape Biodiversity
  • IP 4: Enhancing Value Chains and Regional Trade
  • IP 5: Transboundary Pests and Diseases
  • IP 6: Private Sector Investment and Sustainable Financing
  • IP 7: Farmer-Led Irrigation for Climate-Resilient Agri-Food Systems
  • IP 8: Food Systems Transformation for More Nutritious and Healthy Diets
